The Bamboo Village Project
The Bamboo Village Project was created to transform the impoverished village of La Ladrillera, Guatemala into a thriving, healthy community through the use of environmentally and economically sustainable means. The Family Legacy Foundation has partnered with Technoserve to provide funding, guidance, moral support, and hands on management to the village. We are supporting a young entrepreneur named Nicolas Yax and his promising bamboo business to stimulate the economy. The goal is for Nicolas will provide the building material for Habitat for Humanity houses made out of 70% bamboo in his village. The help provided is not a hand-out; the villagers must work hard to turn their community around. More…

The goal of the foundation extends well beyond just helping the economy of the village. The Family Legacy Foundation has donated books and internet service to be used by everyone at the library. With the aid of Legacy partners, we will help the local farmers switch over from farming coffee to farming other more profitable crops. We will supply soccer uniforms for the local kids, desks and supplies for the school and much more. Find out more on the page entitled The Bamboo Village. Along with material improvements, we are supporting them through our friendship. Find out more about building friendships with the villagers on the page entitled Legacy Trips.
